One of the many advantages of coming up at the venerable Ultrasuede Studios was that we had an EMT 140 plate reverb left behind by Reggie Calloway, and an AKG BX20 spring reverb. Everyone has a favorite, and people are absurdly particular and become oddly attached to what works for them, myself included. The space is just crazy, has of course hall, room, spring, plate, shimmer HOWEVER it shines with crazy stuff like blackhole, mangledverb, double reverb, put a delay before any reverb, use chorus & flange effects on reverb, pitch shift tails, many have freeze and infinite modes for infinite decay.Reverb can be a divisive and personal issue among engineers and musicians. Strymon is pristine, clean, and bright sounding. However, beyond that, I will say: Both are high quality, have true bypass, have line level available, and have the classic reverbs and some unique ones.Įventide is more atmospheric, dark, and at times experimental. While Strymon is a relatively new boutique guitar focused company, which people seem to love, but now everyone sounds the same due to using Big sky, blue sky, and capistan. Eventide is a world renowned effects producer for many decades, and you get some of the same algorithms as in their multi thousand dollar rack units. I would say that Eventidw for synths and Strymon for guitar. It’s my main studio reverb and I won’t replace it with the H9 due to how much control you have over parameters with knobs. I’ve owned both and prefer the Space by far.
